The coronavirus pandemic has caused many children across the UK to miss out on their education through extended periods of lockdown. For some children, having limited access to their academic learning has contributed to them falling behind with the curriculum and for others, it is the lack of social interaction with their peers which has presented the biggest challenge.

The government has recognised the situation faced by countless young people and is supporting their academic and social recovery through its new government “Summer Schools” initiative. As leaders in school holiday provision, who better to help out then United Education, providing a programme which consists of: Academic lessons, personal development, performing arts, arts and crafts, sports.

Summer school camps full of adventure

Children enjoy all kinds of experiences at our camps, with every day different from the last and always packed-full of fun, physical activities, sports, and outdoor learning. It’s a programme designed to drive their development while teaching valuable skills that they will retain for life.  Children will work together to meet fun challenges presented by our multi-skilled team of activity leaders that will plan and deliver sessions using various methods all aiming to provide a variety of learning outcomes. Throw in some excursions and specialist activities such as performing arts, this is an experience a young explorer never forgets!

Programme aims

– Provide enrichment activities to children who have missed out on fundamental development experiences. Government guidance on Summer Schools suggests that “pupils attending a summer school can make up to 2 months additional progress” over those that do not attend. We will provide an environment to facilitate these pupils progression and ensure that school are able to see this change.

– Provide a programme which has a blend of academic education with enrichment activities.

– The summer school also offers an important opportunity to support pupils well-being. Our programme will focus on team games, music, drama and sports to ensure that the time pupils spend in our programme is optimised to help them develop social-behavioural skills and improve their mental well-being.
